Covenant Marriage • Grace • Enduring Faithfulness
Primary Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9; Philippians 2:12-13; Jude 24-25
Marriage requires effort, but effort alone cannot keep a covenant holy. Grit may push through a hard week. Grace teaches the heart to repent, forgive, endure, and obey when strength runs thin.
Paul heard the Lord say, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). That word does not make obedience unnecessary. It makes obedience dependent.
“For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”

Grit Has Limits
Determination can be a gift, but it becomes brittle when it is severed from prayer. A spouse can decide to endure and still grow proud, cold, or resentful. Human willpower cannot create the fruit of the Spirit.
Grace does not make a believer passive. It makes obedience honest. It teaches us to say, “Lord, I cannot make myself holy. Work in me what pleases You.”
Grace Trains the Heart
God is at work in His people both to will and to work. That means He addresses desire as well as action. He forms motives, corrects aims, and strengthens weary obedience.
A covenant is kept faithfully when human obedience leans fully on divine grace.
Dependence Is Not Weakness
Prayer is not what a marriage does after every other strategy fails. Prayer is the posture of a covenant that knows it belongs to God. Dependence humbles pride and keeps endurance from becoming self-congratulation.
Jude blesses the God who is able to keep His people from stumbling. That is the hope beneath all faithful labor: the Lord is able to keep what we cannot keep in our own strength.
Grace Makes Effort Honest
Grace does not excuse laziness. It exposes self-reliance and then strengthens obedience. The spouse who depends on grace still speaks, serves, repents, prays, and keeps vows, but does so with open hands before God.
That kind of effort has a different fragrance. It is less anxious to prove itself and more eager to please the Lord. It can continue because it is being supplied, not merely forced.
Keep the Covenant by Grace
Work hard, but do not worship hard work. Repent, forgive, serve, speak truth, and endure while asking God to supply what obedience requires. The covenant is too holy for grit alone.
Prayer: Father, keep this covenant by Your grace. Work in me what pleases You, and teach me obedience that depends on Christ. Amen.
