# Trusting God in the Season of Waiting: Lessons from Abraham and Sarah
## Scripture Focus
In the Book of Genesis, God called Abraham to leave his familiar surroundings and step out into the unknown, establishing a divine covenant that promised a heritage to bless all nations (Genesis 12:1-4, Genesis 15:1-6). Yet, as decades passed without the arrival of the promised heir, human capacity to hope was exhausted. The Apostle Paul notes that despite human impossibility, Abraham maintained trust in God, remaining convinced that the Lord possessed full power to perform what He had spoken (Romans 4:18-21). Furthermore, the author of Hebrews highlights that Sarah received power to conceive because she considered Him faithful who had promised (Hebrews 11:8-12). Solomon likewise exhorts believers to place total trust in the Lord rather than depending on personal human intellect (Proverbs 3:5-6).
## Reflection
Standing for a covenant marriage or praying through a protracted trial can feel isolating and wearying. When the fulfillment of God’s promise appears delayed, the pressure to take matters into our own hands becomes intense. We see this struggle vividly in the account of Abraham and Sarah when they turned to human reasoning through Hagar. That self-manufactured shortcut produced immediate pain, conflict, and division—a sober warning of what happens when fear replaces patient faith. Yet, even in the midst of human failure, God did not abandon His covenant, nor did He overlook Hagar in her distress; He met her directly in the wilderness, proving that He is the God who sees and hears.
Waiting on the Lord is never empty or wasted time. God deliberately uses the space between His promise and its fulfillment to refine our motives, purge self-reliance, and teach us absolute dependence on Him. What feels like an unbearable delay in our limited view is often God’s purposeful preparation. Just as Isaac was eventually born at the exact moment ordained by the Lord, proving that nothing is too difficult for Him, God remains completely faithful to His word today. When standing in faith, we are called to resist manufacturing our own outcomes and instead rest in His perfect timing.
## Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You that Your faithfulness is constant and unaffected by human uncertainty. When the season of waiting feels heavy and long, anchor our hearts firmly in Your promises. Forgive us for the moments we grow impatient and attempt to resolve spiritual battles through fleshly efforts. Grant us the grace to surrender our timelines, the discernment to avoid shortcuts, and the courage to trust You completely. Strengthen every spouse and family standing in the gap today, knowing that You see every tear and care for every heart. In the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
